“Designer: Gaga's dress was real meat from family butcher” |
| Designer: Gaga's dress was real meat from family butcher Posted: 14 Sep 2010 08:03 AM PDT The singer's dress was constructed out of real, raw meat despite the disbelief of some. Brianna Gunter There has been a lot of speculation over whether or not Lady Gaga's meat dress at the VMA awards Sunday night was made out of real, raw meat. Yes, it was. Franc Fernandez, the dress's designer, told MTV yesterday that he did indeed sew the dress out of raw meat, which he got from his family's butcher. The designer said he was glad the outfit "went so well." Fernandez posted more detailed photos of the dress (while it was both on and off Gaga) on his blog. He posted a note at the bottom of the pictures saying he was the designer of the dress and accessories (Gaga also had meat covered shoes, a meat covered purse and a slab of meat on her head) but Nicola Formichetti was the outfit's stylist (the singer was wearing jewelry alongside the meat, as well as platinum and blue wig). Formichetti is Gaga's personal stylist, and has worked with her before on many of her famously "out there" and controversial looks. He even styled her meat "bikini" for the cover of Vogue Hommes Japan. While many vegetarians, animal lovers and PETA members are up in arms over the meat outfits, Gaga said Monday on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" that neither the bikini or the dress were meant as offensive. Instead, the singer told DeGeneres that they were more of symbol, telling people to speak out for what they believe in or else they will have only as much rights as the meat on their bones. "I am not a piece of meat," Gaga said on the show, while sitting in her meat dress. She didn't say whether the dress had been refrigerated overnight. Gaga wore some other outrageous outfits during the VMAs, all of which it was evident she had difficulty walking in. The other designers included Alexander McQueen and Giorgio Armani.
