Connecticut Dermatologists to Serve Tennis Community with Free Skin Checks

RICHMOND, Va., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- A volunteer team of Connecticut physicians and dermatology residents representing the Women's Dermatologic Society (WDS) will provide free skin cancer screenings, sun damage assessments and sun safety education for tennis fans enjoying the Pilot Pen Classic in New Haven, CT on August 22, Kids Day, from 9 am- 5 pm. Leading the local outreach team are board-certified dermatologists Mona Gohara, MD, assistant clinical professor at Yale University, and Kavita Mariwalla, MD, Director of Mohs and Dermatologic
 Surgery at St. Lukes-Roosevelt and Beth Israel Hospital Centers. The community service event will be held in the WDS tent at the Connecticut Tennis Center, 45 Yale Avenue, New Haven. Free broad-spectrum sunscreen will be provided.

This outreach is part of a 3-year community service campaign, Play Safe in the Sun, collaboratively supported by L'Oreal USA.  The program draws from the organization's membership to promote sun safety among outdoor sports enthusiasts. Michel McDonald, MD (Nashville, TN) and Adrienne Stewart, MD (Denver, CO) lead the WDS Service Committee, which oversees this award-winning campaign.
