Megan Fox has caused a stir with her latest ad for Giorgio Armani.

Megan Fox, the American model and actress, appears in a provocative new ad for Giorgio Armani, reports the Examiner. Fox has taken over from Victoria Beckham as the spokeswoman for Emporio Armani underwear and is also the face of the company's latest fragrance 'Code'. It has been reported that Beckham was scheduled to represent the brand until 2012 but her latest pregnancy has paved the way for Fox's arrival. In the new ad, the 'Transformers' actress dons an ebony bob style wig, a black dress and ruby coloured lips. The revealing shoot highlights Fox's toned figure as well as her numerous tattoos. The 24-year-old's recent campaign for Armani Jeans began gracing billboards in Milan, Tokyo and New York in February 2011. When asked why the actress was chosen to represent the fashion house, Giorgio Armani said, "Megan is young and sexy and has a lot of spirit", adding that his brands are "all about a youthful attitude, making her the perfect choice for the collections".

Megan Fox is currently filming the comedy movie 'Friends with Kids', starring Jon Hamm and Adam Scott. The film, directed by Jennifer Westfeldt, follows the story of two best friends who have a child together but decide to date other people in an attempt to avoid the stress of being a romantic couple.

Can Tina Turner do any wrong? After creating major buzz last Saturday during her appearance at the Emporio Armani runway show during Milan Fashion Week, the singer decided to go for round two by making a front-row appearance at yesterday's Giorgio Armani show.

Ms. Turner checked out the Womenswear Autumn/Winter 2011 line in a blue dress, navy blazer and, as usual, a pair of pumps. However, forever aging gracefully, Tina covered up those notorious legs in a pair of chic pants.

We really can't get enough of her. Or the collar on that blazer!

Giorgio Armani presented a feminine collection of silver, black and rose pieces in its Milan Fashion Week showcase this morning (27.02.11).

The luxury Italian fashion house - which brought the Italian city's fashion week to a close - displayed a palette of silver, black and pastel rose in its autumn/winter 2011-12 line, which "emphasises the beauty of the body, but never flaunts it".

With music legend Tina Turner assuming a front row seat at the show, the 76-year-old designer also featured a variety of textures - including silks, satins and suedes - to give an opulent look to the new pieces featured in the collection.

Following the close of the show, Tina said: "Totally fantastic - as always."

After showcasing a new slightly flared trouser which cuts off just above the ankle, the grand finale of the Armani show featured a whole host of shimmering Cinderella-style ballgowns, adorned with crystal fringing, hand-embroidered organza and charmed chokers.

Giorgio Armani recently explained he thinks using crystals in his designs will also allow men - as well as women - to look "elegant" yet "contemporary".

He said: "I thought of using these luminous crystals as an unusual, beautiful detail, creating a contemporary, elegant look for men.

"I designed a black, perfectly proportioned, slim-fit suit complete with a shirt in the same colour, with tiny Swarovski crystals applied to the shirtfront to give it an original, unexpected look. The crystals capture the light and therefore the eye."

MILAN (AFP) – Secret agent femme fatales captivated the Emporio Armani show on Saturday, their sculpted dresses in stark contrast to Donatella Versace's fabulous feathered gowns for the Oscars.

Italian fashion king Giorgio Armani's label, which has hired US actress Megan Fox for a sexy ad campaign, presented an all-black collection, inspired by film noir crime dramas.

Models wore black, peaked caps pulled down low over their eyes and short, tailored jackets with concealed buttons to convey the secretive world of "international espionage," guests were told.

True to film noir's visual style, a play on light and shadow accentuated silhouettes: sharply cut jackets and coats were softened with ruffles at the neck or puffed-out sleeves, from elbow to wrist.

Sleek jumpsuits, satin culottes or pipe-thin trousers puffed at the thigh were worn with towering stilettos with silver heels or with pumps -- presumably to enable the spies to stalk their prey with greater ease.

A sparkling silver gown with detachable ruffle collar, sleek black dresses with detached puffed sleeves and Mongolian fur coats aimed to encapture "the beat of great nightclubs and the silence of famous hotels."

There were nods to trends seen elsewhere in Milan Fashion Week, from a hint of tartan on a cape with large tassles to pleated coats and sarong-style wrap-skirts.

The only touches of colour were blue and green feather-adorned bags, a blue feather shrug and a purple feather coat. Even the dog, scooped up under one model's arm, had his own, all-black outfit.

The plumage motif was also a feature of Friday's Versace, which starred Red Carpet gowns with sweeping plumed trails, part of the autumn/winter collection unveiled in the garden of the label's Milan headquarters.

Models also strode out in black leather military-style coats with gold Medusa buttons -- the Versace house trademark -- and tunics with open backs, as well as purple rollneck jumpers matched with leather pleated skirts.

Fur mufflers in white, purple and green set off the classic 'little black dress', updated by plunging V-shaped necklines or crossed straps and striking tulip patterns in bright yellow and purple.

Backstage after the show, a tired but pleased-looking Donatella Versace showed off the collection highlights but gave few hints about who could be wearing the feathered gowns at the Oscar ceremony on Sunday.

Another take on the playful military uniform and feathers theme was seen earlier on Friday at Moschino's autumn-winter show, which starred a feathered creation and featured red, cream and black riding coats.

Gold bear-shaped pins, large pearl necklaces and long gloves softened "the rigid lines of that man's world that a woman knows all too well and can wear to perfection," Moschino's Rossella Jardini told her guests.

Slinky, classic black dresses that rested just below the knee were embellished with large white ruffles at the neck and waist or a shirt worn with a bow tie, floral cummerbunds or the fantastical feathered-hen hat.

Satin floor-length and below-the-knee dresses in nude and candy pinks were the highlight of the evening wear, as well as shimmering gold trousers teamed with black-trimmed, oversized double-breasted jackets.

ON THE RED CARPET: Katy stepped out in a custom-made Giorgio Armani evening dress featuring a Swarovski crystal encrusted bustier and an iridescent silk organza ruffled skirt. But, the feathery angel wings were what made this ensemble soar.

NEW YORK – The reclusive designer has found his muse in Lady Gaga. In this week's Newsweek, Robin Givhan says the outrageous frocks he has designed for the pop star have freed him from his gilded cage. Plus, a Gaga gallery.

After winning two Grammy Awards last year and swanning down the red carpet like a celestial debutante with her own orbiting moons, Lady Gaga is now up for Album of the Year for The Fame Monster. One can only assume—hope, pray—she will arrive at the Staples Center in Los Angeles wearing a costume more marvelously atrocious than anything even her most ardent fans, the little monsters, could fathom.

Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, 24, steamrolled into the popular consciousness with accessible pop beats, an outré public persona, and a well-crafted personal history founded on the irresistible fable of the misunderstood outcast who now finds herself with more than 10 million Facebook friends. No matter how much one adores her songs or despises their ubiquity, it's impossible to separate her musical success from her fashion—a manner of dress that blurs the line between costume and couture. Her sensibility is too self-consciously considered to be madcap stagecraft. Yet it doesn't have the kind of eloquence that exemplifies French couture. It is, in essence, couture kitsch.

Gaga's relationship with the fashion industry is, as one might imagine, complicated. It is symbiotic, exploitative, audacious, and, at times, embarrassing. In the past, when fashion designers have glommed on to a new star, they have bent her to their will. If she is fat, she soon loses weight. If her hair is a jungle of curls, it's quickly flat-ironed. If her taste is too down-market, she swiftly goes upscale. The poor dear doesn't stand a chance when set upon by an industry of self-appointed Pygmalions.

This time, however, Gaga is calling the shots.

She reinvigorated Giorgio Armani, the veteran Italian designer who has often felt stifled by his own success. American Gigolo, Oscars, power suits. Gaga set him free. When her hoop-skirted, crystal-studded extravaganza appeared on the red carpet last year, Armani's staff sent an email across the fashion world identifying it as the work of the ever-discreet designer. One could only respond with "Holy bedazzlement!"

The experience left the septuagenarian designer sounding positively gob-smacked. "True creativity knows no bounds," he enthuses. "Life has an extra dimension made up of dreams, pleasure, and irony." Little monsters, please discuss and, if you can, tell us what that means.

Gaga's personal daring opened doors for her collaborator Nicola Formichetti—the stylist and fashion editor responsible for the meat frock she wore at the MTV Video Music Awards last fall. Formichetti now serves as the creative director of Thierry Mugler and is charged with raising the French brand from its moribund state. He's doing so based on what might be described as the Gaga Doctrine.

"The way I work with Gaga is to be free and creative and to do something new," Formichetti says. "The starting point is always to be art, fashion, music, and performance art. That's how I deal with all my projects. And that's how I started with Mugler… the Internet, digital communications, and marketing the clothing is as important as designing the clothing."

"I'm not an elitist," Formichetti says. "I want everyone to share what we're about."

And Gaga is not some high-strung fashion icon. She isn't setting a standard of dress for the masses. She has donned a coat stitched out of Kermits, worn dominatrix gear to a nursing home, and walked down the street in little more than her underpants. Fans might doll up for her concerts in wigs and colorful makeup, but Gaga hasn't popularized any major trends—and for folks with a sensitive stomach or a quaint devotion to propriety, this is probably for the best.

Instead, she is the video vixen next door, a fashion shoot come to your street corner, performance art in your living room.

She was spawned by an entertainment industry that produced Madonna, David Bowie, and Grace Jones, who built stage personas that toyed with prescribed gender roles, sexual prohibitions, and social power. They might not have been wholly intellectual in their costuming, but their message was multilayered. (Jones in a gorilla suit is an image rich enough to engage a battalion of sociologists for a lifetime.) Gaga hasn't expanded that conversation; instead, she luxuriates in the space carved out long ago.

As trends come and go, an icon holds fast. Gaga is a chameleon, a tortured soul searching for her identity through outrageous fashion. She may not have defined herself, but neither has some designer.

Her style represents "liberation," says Mathieu Deflem, a sociology professor at the University of South Carolina who teaches "Lady Gaga and the Sociology of the Fame." (If Gaga won't remain static long enough to be dissected, then we will dissect ourselves dissecting her.)

She has been like a turbocharger for a fashion industry stuck in first gear ever since the global recession hit, the minimalist sensibility of Céline's Phoebe Philo took hold, and the size of the models on the runway became more controversial than what they were wearing.

Armani, the unlikeliest designer to be jolted by Gaga juice, discovered her in the most mundane way: He saw her perform at the American Music Awards a little more than a year ago. "I was struck by her extraordinary talent for writing music and her mastery of her own voice," the designer says. And he was enamored by how she'd "deliberately created a totally outlandish personality."

Most celebrities come to Armani seeking salvation from their tasteless ways. But Gaga did not genuflect. She inspired the designer to craft a brilliant silver minidress with a lightning-bolt head ornament. He made a black leather bodysuit for her "Alejandro" video. He stocked a wardrobe trunk for her current tour. She even induced him to create a green spangled leotard with shoulders like Mickey Mouse ears. Armani was clearly intoxicated by Gaga. And that last look was the fashion equivalent of drunk dialing.

"No other artist would give me the opportunity to devise such original and way-out creations," Armani explains. "Lady Gaga's costumes are a pure creativity exercise that allows me to design spectacular, almost surreal pieces."

Gaga is a chameleon, a tortured soul searching for her identity through outrageous fashion. She may not have defined herself, but neither has some designer.

While Gaga allowed Armani to break out of his gilded cage, she helped Formichetti step into fashion's center ring. He debuted his menswear collection in January and will show the women's next month. Gaga wasn't in the audience, but she was on the musical soundtrack, and her influence was evident in the opening video. It starred model Rick "Rico" Genest, who is tattooed to look like a skeleton in full-blown Halloween gore.

Formichetti plans to build on the legacy of the house, which is known for strong silhouettes and a larger-than-life sensibility. (See George Michael's 1992 video for "Too Funky.") "By wearing Mugler, you felt more powerful," Formichetti says. "It almost had a superhuman aspect to it. What I want to continue to do is… not only great powerful clothing, but also mixing music, subcultures, more of an entertainment spirit."

The resulting clothes were dramatic and brooding. It would be excessive to attribute those characteristics solely to Gaga. But Formichetti's belief that there's a place for costume drama in modern life, that comfort isn't always paramount, and that attracting wide-eyed stares on the street is an admirable goal—that's pure Gaga.

"She took what I was doing in magazines, on models, and actually started wearing it," Formichetti says. She brought his photo shoots to life, and "it was a high for me."

As a result, Formichetti says, "I don't want to just do a very standard, mass-produced collection."

He wants to do Gaga, which in fashion-speak now means going creatively, boldly, and happily crazy.

This would mark the third hotel for the group, which already has properties in Dubai (in April, the latest hotel opened in the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building) and Milan.

Last month, a Russian newspaper reported that the group was set to open in the resort area.

MILAN (AFP) – Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani categorically denies press reports that the luxury hotel brand is planning to develop a hotel in Russia's Caucasus region, a company statement said Monday.

"The Armani Group categorically states that reports of its intention to open an Armani Hotel in the Russian Caucasus are without foundation," the Italian group said.

At the end of January, Russia's Kommersant daily cited sources who claimed the Armani Hotels and Resorts brand was to open a hotel in the Stavropol region's mineral springs resort area, together with other investors.

Investment in the project was estimated at over 150 million dollars (109 million euros), the report said.

The Italian fashion designer revealed he thinks Britain's future princess - who will marry Prince William on April 29 - is 'highly aware of fashion trends' and he is looking forward to seeing her outfit choices in the future.

Giorgio - who will design Charlene Wittstock's wedding dress when she marries Monaco's Prince Albert in July - told WWD Kate is 'so discreet and straightforward, but highly aware of fashion trends'.

He added: 'She will have all the time in the world to become fully integrated into her new role and choose the most sophisticated and precious dresses and outfits for official occasions.'

Paris – There was a major new departure by Giorgio Armani in his latest haute couture collection, a jet propelled take off into outer space, and a powerful re-launch of the retro futurism of the '60s in a path-breaking show in Paris Monday, Jan. 24.

Armani, the most rigorous and self-disciplined of designers, enjoyed an unprecedented time warp by reinventing his cut, silhouette, fabric choice and even color scheme in a revolutionary moment for the 76-year-old couturier.

Gone were Armani's non-colors of lichen, cement or mud; absent his fluid, linear cut and ejected his sense of classic symmetry. Almost the entire collection was composed of iridescent, metallic silk fabrics that shone and shimmered, almost like liquid metals, in molten reds, cobalt blues and vibrant greens. Armani also cut, chopped and slashed with asymmetrical dresses, twisting scallop neck tops and jutting tunics.

Topped by flying saucer hats - courtesy of London-based milliner Phillip Treacy - and anchored by Perspex-heeled platforms, the models marched down the catwalk in tony Place Vendome to a soundtrack of galactic funk.

But the key to this collection was the backdrop - huge images of beveled jewels in crimson and blue violets - colors and shapes reproduced in the dazzling jewels used as accessories.

"I wandered across a striking bracelet in a not particularly know jeweler in Milan, and the strength of the piece suggested that I take a new direction, something dazzling and strong," Armani explained.

The Italian designer has teamed up with crystal firm Swarovski to create a new collection and Giorgio is very excited about the range.

He told vogue.com: "I thought of using these luminous crystals as an unusual, beautiful detail, creating a contemporary, elegant look for men. I designed a black, perfectly proportioned, slim-fit suit complete with a shirt in the same colour, with tiny Swarovski crystals applied to the shirtfront to give it an original, unexpected look. The crystals capture the light and therefore the eye."

Dior Homme's Kris Van Assche has also been working with the label, but took a more subtle approach to his creations.

He said: "I love the idea that at Dior Homme, each piece is so beautiful, precious and carefully made inside as it is on the outside."

16 leading menswear names were asked by Swarovski to incorporate crystals into a design for autumn/winter 2011 and all of which were showcased in a unique event in Milan earlier this month.

Top makeup artist, Kristofer Buckle assisted Best Actress in a Television Series nominee (Drama), Julianna Margulies, in preparation for the red carpet. "I really wanted a very skin conscious look for Julianna," states Buckle. "You always see so many loud statements on the red carpet, and I feel that sometimes one speaks louder with less." To showcase skin perfection, Buckle prepped the skin with Regenessence Youth Regenerator, Multi-Corrective Rejuvenating Cream and Eye Rejuvenating Serum (all launching in March 2011). To set the stage for seamless skin, he then applied Luminous Silk Foundation #3 and High Precision Retouch #3. Buckle swept a very subtle layer of Maestro Eye Shadow #6 on the eyelid and coated the eyelashes with Eyes to Kill Excess Mascara. Julianna's sophisticated look was finished with a sweep of Sheer Blush #6 and Rouge d'Armani #105 on the lips.

Actress Camilla Belle worked with Giorgio Armani Face Designer, Nichole Burston, to prepare for tonight's activities at the InStyle Golden Globes Viewing Party. Camilla's Giorgio Armani metallic silver jersey gown inspired Burston to create a look that was classic Hollywood with a modern twist. "I wanted to create sexy drama in the makeup that would compliment the sophistication of Camilla's gown," states Burston. She prepped the skin with Crema Nera Extrema High Recovery Elixir and Reviving Eye Compact to achieve a healthy glow. Burston then applied Lasting Silk Foundation #6.5 mixed with Fluid Sheer #10 to create skin that was both luminous and flawless. "I also thought the beautiful silver color of the gown would perfectly compliment the gorgeous blue theme that Mr. Armani showcased on the Spring 2011 Runway." "After seeing Amber's beautiful satin champagne color Giorgio Armani gown with the open back, I was instantly inspired by the boudoir style of the 50's," states Quinn. "I wanted to take this idea and translate it to modern glamour." To accomplish his vision, Quinn first evened out Amber's skin tone with Luminous Silk Foundation #5.5. Next, he created a smoky sexy eye with Eyes to Kill Palette #1 and Eyes to Kill Excess Mascara in black, which added intense volume and length to her lashes. On Amber, he created a matte red lip with Rouge d'Armani #403. To finish her look, Quinn mixed Crema Nera Revitalizing Eye Compact with Fluid Sheer #2, lightly tapping it around the eye area and temples to add extra glow.

To achieve the perfect nude face, Quinn prepped Cheryl Hines's skin with the new Regenessence Youth Regenerator for an even and radiant canvas. "Cheryl loves elegant simplicity, so I wanted to work primarily with a nude palette to emphasize an understated and completely natural look," says Quinn. He evenly applied Lasting Silk Foundation #5 and swept the new Spring 2011 Face Palette over the apples of her cheeks and up towards the hairline. Cheryl's eyes were emphasized with Eyes to Kill Palette #2 and Eyes to Kill Excess Mascara and the look was finished with Rouge d'Armani #103 painted on her lips.

Giorgio Armani chose a fellow Italian to be the latest beauty to front his Spring/Summer 2011 campaign.

Actress and model Elisa Sednaoui will be taking over for Lithuanian stunner Edita Vilkeviciute, reports Vogue UK.

The 23-year-old brunette, while not a household name yet, is already an established veteran on the fashion scene.

The tanned amazon has appeared in spreads for countless magazines including Marie Claire, Elle France, W and has fronted for Diane von Furstenburg, Hogan and Diesel.

She's also earned her wings as a Victoria's Secret model.

It seems that Armani is looking to change things up a bit.

LADY GaGa was photographed with fashion designer Giorgio Armani over the weekend.

Starting in February 2011 and including appearances in Milan on the 4th and 5th December 2010, GaGa will wear a series of outfits specially created for her by Giorgio Armani.

The superstar singer's wardrobe will include a structured body with pronounced shoulders, totally embroidered with diamanté, a multi-colored body in diamanté with ribbon-work creating a lobster-inspired effect on the front and sleeves, a mini dress cut geometrically with a mirror finish, and a long trench in black patent leather.

All these looks are complemented by special accessories — shoes and eye-wear — also designed by Giorgio Armani, according to a press release.

Recent reports claimed GaGa will only wear silk underwear.

"She's so in love with the way it feels on her body, she's demanded every piece of lingerie be made from 100 per cent pure silk," a source said.

"Polyester, cotton and Lycra are all banned. The finest silk, made to order, is all she'll wear now.

"She really believes this will help her creativity because if she feels comfortable and her skin is able to breathe properly, she'll be able to concentrate on her music."

The Paparazzi hitmaker has spent an estimated $14,000 in replacing all her old underwear with silk garments but doesn't mind about the cost.

"She's taking this latest fetish seriously and driving her assistant crazy," the source added.

"Some garments go for £70 a pair and because she's kitted out the entire underwear section of her wardrobe, it's cost her close to $15,000.

"She's successful enough to demand anything she wants, even if it's silky pants."

Giorgio Armani won't be hiring a Yank to run his US business, after all.

The Italian fashion impresario has tapped Graziano de Boni to lead Armani's struggling US division, sources told The Post.

A native of Italy, de Boni was fired from an executive position at Coach in August -- after just nine months on the job.

De Boni was Armani's "second choice" for the position, according to one source briefed on the situation.

As exclusively reported by The Post in June, Armani had been angling to repair his struggling division in the US by hiring Anthony Lucia -- a New York apparel veteran who is currently CEO of Escada USA.

Former Cach exec Graziano di Bona is being tapped to fill a job that doesnt' promise much power in the Giorgio Armani universe: head of the US division.

That plan was dashed because Lucia wasn't able to extricate himself from his contract with Escada, sources said.

Neither de Boni nor Lucia could be reached for comment, and Armani officials didn't respond to requests for comment.

De Boni -- who before his brief stint at Coach had briefly headed US divisions for Prada, Valentino and Hugo Boss -- is a "well-liked industry veteran," according to one industry source close to the situation.

Still, sources said, de Boni was a bad fit at Coach.

"Graziano is an old-style fashion-industry exec," according to one source briefed on de Boni's dismissal. "He does business on a handshake, and was part of the old boys' network when everything was riding high."

But Coach now favors a more "modern, aggressive, numbers-driven approach to fashion," the source said.

Meanwhile, de Boni's new position at Armani "is not a plum job," another source said, noting that the company is focused on growth in Asia and "no longer views America as a strategic priority.

It's all in Chinese and the prices are all in yuan. The address? www.emporioarmani.cn. Italian fashion giant Giorgio Armani announced on Friday that its online store is open for business in the fastest-growing consumer market in the world.

Chinese shoppers will now be able to browse through the season's Armani collections for men and women, including the EA7 sports line, as well as the label's well-loved jeans, jewelry, perfumes, watches and eyewear.

Giorgio Armani says he has observed an increased enthusiasm for online shopping in the Chinese market.

"I decided to open an Emporio Armani online store in China where we have identified a significant group of fashion consumers, who will certainly appreciate this new approach," he says.

In the past eight years, the group has invested in more than 40 Emporio Armani stores on the Chinese mainland.

"Now China has Armani stores that can rival our best in New York, London, Paris, Milan or Tokyo. We believe this launch is the next logical step to serve our customers better, and to reach out to new customers who do not know our stores, or do not have easy access to them," says John Hooks, deputy chairman of Giorgio Armani.

The website reflects the label's spirit and vision: the eagle logo, white background and simple layout. The one difference is that the site is specially designed for Chinese consumers. Models are Chinese-Japanese actor Takeshi Kaneshiro and Taiwanese actress Fanny Shu, and the language used is simplified Chinese.

Armani, who retains total control of all stores, also spent much time perfecting the website. The design, product and attentive service were all under his personal scrutiny. Catalogs and prices are identical to other online stores.

This is the group's fourth store on the Web, after the first was launched in the United States in 2007. At present, Armani has more than 160 points of sale all over China.

"But three quarters of our business is still done in Europe and North America, with the remaining 25 percent from the rest of the world. China is now a significant part of that segment," Hooks says.

Another luxury brand, Gucci, went online in China in October.

MILAN (AFP) – Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani plans to tap the Chinese market with a new online store that opened Friday for Emporio Armani in one of the first such initiatives in China by a major fashion brand.

"In view of the increasing enthusiasm for online shopping and the growing importance of the Chinese market, I have decided to open an Emporio Armani online store in China," Armani was quoted as saying in a statement.

"We have identified a significant group of fashion consumers who will certainly appreciate this new approach to shopping, one that becomes more popular every day," Armani said, referring to the Chinese market.

Online retail sales in China, which has the world's largest web population of at least 420 million, soared 117 percent last year to 39 billion dollars (29 billion euros), according to iResearch, a Beijing-based research firm.

US fashion giant Gap launched an online store in China earlier this month and Wal-Mart -- the world's biggest retailer -- has said it too plans an Internet presence in China soon. Apple opened an online store in October.

Armani said it was "the first fashion brand to offer a 'flagship store' online experience in China." The website is backed by Yoox, an Italian online fashion retailer that has grown rapidly during the global economic crisis.

The Armani Group has more than 5,000 employees and 13 factories, producing clothes, as well as accessories, eyewear, watches, jewellery and perfume.

The group has 609 stores in 46 countries around the world.

The timing could never have been better because my newish Blackberry Bold crashed on me literally the same day I received the phone. Such life eh? I truly believe everything in this world happens for a reason.

The phone came with this personalized leather box. How luxurious!

The Giorgio Armani x Samsung phone is super sleek and super chic. There's a very generous display touch screen ala iPhone. I love how it weighs like a feather!

This phone runs on Android OS and it has everything I need: internet browser, email access and the most important function of all, access to Twitter.

My only concern is the battery time. I don't think it has the same power as my good ol' BB. But then again, if you use wi-fi or the internet very often, I doubt your phone will run for as long as you want it to run.

Other than that, I'm very happy with this phone.

The company has tied up with Italian firm Pangea SRL, which services labels such as Dolce & Gabbana, Giorgio Armani and Roberto Cavali, to set up the country's first speciality bottom-weight fabric weaving, dyeing and finishing plant.

Suryajyoti Spinning Mills is weaving its way higher up the value chain by drawing up plans to get into garment production, a major part of which will be exported to leading global brands in the apparel segment.

Simultaneously, the company is in the process of ramping up its production capacity by adding 25,000 spindles to its existing capacity of one lakh spindles from three plants in Andhra Pradesh.

Expansion plans

"To fund these expansion plans, we may consider raising some equity through the QIP route next year," Mr A.K. Agarwal, Executive Director of the company, told Business Line. It started the process of moving up the value chain last fiscal by tying up with Italian firm Pangea SRL to set up the country's first speciality bottom-weight fabric weaving, dyeing and finishing plant.

Major customers

Pangea has been servicing the requirements of global fashion labels such as Dolce & Gabbana, Giorgio Armani and Roberto Cavali.

"The fabric that we produce is sold in India and overseas under the brand name Pangea Fabrics. The major customers in the domestic market are the export houses that cater to the needs of the US and EU markets in the bottom wear segment," Mr Agarwal said.

To make further progress in the value chain, Suryajyoti is expected to finalise plans to get into garments in the next few months.

Global textile and apparel trade is distinctly recovering after a slump during the recession-hit 2008-09 and is expected to touch $1 trillion by 2020 from the present level of $510 billion, according to a latest report by management consulting firm Technopak.

The Indian domestic textile and apparel market size in 2009 was estimated at $47 billion and is expected to grow at 11 per cent CAGR to reach $140 billion by 2020.

The company aims at completing the expansion of its capacity by 25,000 spindles at its Rajapur facility at a cost of Rs 75 crore by the next fiscal.

It has been estimated that to capture a significant chunk of the additional global textile and apparel market by 2020, the domestic industry may require an investment of $9 billion to add 13.6 million new spindles for spun yarn alone.

The Giorgio Armani x Samsung phone is super sleek and super chic. There's a very generous display touch screen ala iPhone. I love how it weighs like a feather!

This phone runs on Android OS and it has everything I need: internet browser, email access and the most important function of all, access to Twitter.

Other than that, I'm very happy with this phone.

If you're walking around in your Giorgio Armani suit wishing you had a killer high-end fashionable phone to go with it, your prayers are answered. You'll soon be able to buy an Armani phone powered by Samsung's Galaxy S Android line, for around $1,000.

The device expands on Samsung's existing partnership with Giorgio Armani to provide high-priced designer electronics to those who want it.

Under the hood, the new phone is nothing special. Its specs look like a typical Galaxy S device. The main differences are the Giorgio Armani logo on the device, the slick form factor, and a special Armani app pre-installed.

It can record 720p HD video, has a 4-inch display, and a 5-megapixel camera. With a 1 GHz processor, a "Social Hub" for Facebook and Twitter, and 16 GB of built-in memory, you're not paying for technology. You're paying for Armani.

For right now, this phone is going exclusively to our rich friends in Europe for 700 euros ($947). It'll launch there later this year. We're not sure yet if Giorgio wants to bring the $1,000 pocket gadget to the states. He may think we're just a bunch of penny-pinchers.

Samsung and Giorgio Armani are making another go at creating a designer cell phone, reports Women's Wear Daily. Like their original collaboration, the Samsung Armani, the new handset will offer a touch screen and multimedia features, but it will ditch Windows Mobile 6.5, Armani's operating system of choice on last year's Samsung smartphone, in favor of Android. Say goodbye also to the full keyboard and tilting design.

Though the new model is part of the Galaxy S series--it's a dead ringer for AT&T's Captivate--we weren't expecting it to be so understated. With the black color and small Armani logo, it lacks some of the gold embellishments found on its predecessors.

The feature set, on the other hand, isn't surprising. Inside you'll find the standard Galaxy S offerings including a 5-megapixel camera, a multimedia player, e-mail, a 1Ghz processor, and 16GB of internal memory. And, of course, the 4-inch display is super-AMOLED. We don't know which version of Android it will run, but Eclair (2.1) is the most likely candidate.

Starting next month the handset will debut in Giorgio Armani boutiques and other retailers in Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Dubai, China, Hong Kong, Spain, Russia, and the Netherlands. Be warned that it carries a hefty price tag of 700 euros, or about $965. No one ever said fashion came cheap.

The fun thing about this oh-so-exclusive piece of Armani luxury is that it looks remarkably (read: exactly) like the AT&T Captivate that Americans have had the pleasure of using for a good few of months now. We're hearing there's some extra multimedia bundled in along with the GA brand name, so we're absolutely positive your €700 will be well spent. Putting herself in the shoes of outed CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson was no easy task for Naomi Watts, but thanks to designer Giorgio Armani, the two were able to connect through fashion. Building on the women's uncanny likeness and sophisticated taste, Armani and costume designer Cindy Evans got busy creating the character's strong style. "When I saw the photo of Valerie courageously testifying before Congress, I wanted to play a part in this project," explained Armani. "To me, that exemplified a power suit moment." Plame Wilson, an Armani fan, admits that sharp suits provided her with a sense of security while the real-life drama played out. "Armani's clothes are modern and feminine, always making me look my best and confident," she said. "This became even more important when I found myself, reluctantly, placed in the public eye." He already dresses all of Hollywood; is Italian designer Giorgio Armani now making a bid for Washington? His soft "power suits," which transformed workwear in the '80s, are apparently a favorite of Valerie Plame Wilson, the ex-CIA agent outed as a spy during the Bush Administration. According to Women's Wear Daily, Plame Wilson "treated herself to a jacket by [Armani] the first time she spoke in public for the Congressional hearing." (Armani worked with costume designer Cindy Evans for the upcoming biopic on Plame Wilson Fair Game, which will star Naomi Watts as the secret agent.) Gushes Plame Wilson: "Giorgio Armani's clothes are modern and feminine, always making me look my best and confident. … This became even more important when I found myself, reluctantly, placed in the public eye." Newly elected Congresswomen, take note.

Shoppers at the Armani Exchange store in SoHo got a surprise this week when Giorgio Armani himself showed up. According to spies, the legendary designer walked around the store complimenting shoppers on their selections. When one customer seemed on the fence about buying a metallic puffer coat, Armani "gushed about the piece and made quite a convincing argument." After getting Armani's nod of approval, the shopper bought the coat and ripped off the tags so she could wear it out of the store.

The Armani Hotel Dubai opened its doors with a star-studded ceremony on April 27, 2010

Room prices at Dubai's Armani Hotel, which occupies the first six floors of the Burj Khalifa, are trading at 40 percent down from the published rates at launch, Arabian Business can reveal.

Seven months after its opening, a standard room at the 160-room Armani hotel will now set back guests AED2,400 ($653) compared to a rate card price of AED4,000 at the end of April.

The cost of a two bedroom suite, originally priced at AED40,000, can now be snapped up for AED24,000, according to the hotel's reservations desk.

Tourism levels in Dubai were badly hit by the emirate's downturn, but the industry is showing signs of recovery. Tourists to the emirate increased nine percent during the first half of this year to 4.18 million visitors while hotel revenue increased six percent to $1.87bn, according to Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing.

A spokesperson for the Armani Hotel Dubai said its rack rates remained unchanged.

"However, we offer competitive rates based on seasonality which are in line with the global luxury hospitality trends," the hotel said in an emailed statement.

The first Armani Hotel, which also includes 144 Armani residences, was opened to great fanfare in April this year by the designer and Emaar's chairman, Mohamed Alabbar.

"I am a minimalist, less is more... and when I looked at what was happening here it was the opposite," the Italian designer said at the launch. "But he wanted me and I wanted him," he said referring to Alabbar.

Armani signed a deal with Emaar Properties, the Arab world's largest real estate developer, in 2005 to develop a series of hotels, resorts and residences across the world, including New York and Marrakesh. A second hotel, Armani Hotel Milano, is due to open mid-2011.

Last month Mark Dardenne, CEO of Emaar Hotels and Resorts, told Arabian Business that Emaar was planning to build a third Armani Hotel, possibly in with Paris. "It's being designed now," he said.

Kuala Lumpur, Oct 31 : Leading designers Giorgio Armani, Louis Vuitton, Prada and Zara have shown keen interest in Malaysia's Terengganu state's batik and songket.

Representatives from these companies were interested in the Malaysian state's local textiles during a promotional blitz by the state government in Milan, Barcelona, Paris and London last month, an official said.

"European designers were impressed with the elaborate patterns and designs and want to explore the potential of unveiling haute couture using batik and songket," Rural Development, Entrepreneur and Co-operative Committee deputy chairman Rosol Wahid told The Star newspaper.

Rosol said several other leading fashion designers from Europe were also keen to use locally-produced textile for their design collections.

He said fashion writers in Barcelona were also impressed with Terengganu's textiles.

"The European connection will one day be an impetus for the local textile industry, making it a high-revenue earner for the state," he said.

The state government would continue to court fashion designers from other countries to promote the local industry.

Batik is popular in Malaysia and is donned by many political leaders at public functions.

Cebu comfort pieces for world celebs

THEY DO NOT KNOW Giorgio Armani. But the 10 young men, aged between 18 and 24 years, produce high-quality throw pillows and cushions for the furniture pieces ordered by the world-renowned fashion designer, as well as other famous celebrities abroad.

They are employees and trainees of Filo D'Oro, subcontractor and partner-company of Interior Crafts of the Islands Inc. (ICI), a Cebu-based company owned by topnotch Cebuano furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue.

"We often joke that our products are better than us in terms of traveling. They have reached places while we're only here in Cebu. It makes us feel really proud that famous people sit on the cushions that we make," says Rail Ortiz, 20, who started training in sewing when he was 16.

Eleuterio Bravo, founder of Filo D'Oro, says the sewers were endorsed to him by different religious organizations in Cebu. Most of them do not want to go to school and opt to look for jobs, he adds.

Four are full-time employees who receive regular monthly salaries and other benefits. The rest are trainees who may accept other jobs.

All of them live in the same house, which is also Filo D'Oro's production area and the ancestral house of the Cobonpues in Barangay Lahug in Cebu City.

Beginning

The partnership between Filo D'Oro and Cobonpue started with the friendship of Bravo, a native of Pangasinan who has since made Cebu his home, and the furniture designer in the early 1990s. Bravo first went to Cebu as the youth coordinator of the Focolare Movement, of which Cobonpue is an active member.

(The Focolare Movement, founded in 1944 in Trent, Italy, as a Catholic lay organization, has grown into an ecumenical spiritual organization now found in 182 countries. It promotes unity and universal brotherhood among different Christian denominations and those of Jewish faith, according to its website http://www.focolare.org.)

As Focolare members, Bravo says he and Cobonpue worked together organizing concerts and other activities to raise funds for the group's projects.

"We became good friends and we thought of organizing projects that will help the youth," said Bravo, who studied design in Florence, Italy, in the 1980s.

Bravo formed a group that sewed school and tournament uniforms, bags and T-shirts in the early 1990s. By the time the World Youth Day was held in the Philippines in 1994, Bravo was asked to return to Manila and help in the preparations.

Friendship

In 2005, he opened a Focolare Center in Baguio City. He went back to Cebu in 2006 while managing youth affairs in Cebu and Panay.

He continued what he started—sewing and designing bags and clothing—with young men as apprentices in the old Coaco building in Barangay Mabolo in Cebu City. But the project was not sustainable since they did not have a target market.

The Cobonpues provided financial assistance to the project, which the group invested in sewing machines, Bravo says.

"It was in 2007 when Kenneth said that a German consultant was here to help them with community projects so the team came and assessed us. They told us that the only way for us to grow was to get a partner company," Bravo says.

The German consultant was sent to work on the Strategic Corporate-Community Partnership for Local Development Program of the German Development Service.

On face value, he says, there was no connection between their products and Cobonpue's company. For a while, Bravo had thought that his group must really work harder to look for partners.

Partnership
The link with Cobonpue's company came in the form of throw pillows.

"Furniture pieces need throw pillows so Kenneth said, 'Why don't we supply the throw pillows?' From there, we moved on to produce the cushion for small furniture items like that of the dragnet lounge chair," Bravo says.

From a simple philanthropic endeavor, a business partnership with the Cobonpues was established.

In 2009, they moved to the ancestral house of the Cobonpues in Lahug and set up their own production area.

Bravo says he has a team of hardworking people who know how to save materials.

Ortiz is in charge of determining the materials to be used for the cushions and throw pillows.

ICI creative director Estela Ocampo-Fernandez says the company likes Filo D'Oro because its employees make full use of the materials provided to them. "They economize and save materials," she adds.

Bravo says discipline and brotherhood are values inculcated among the young men for them to do their work well.

Ortiz, for instance, started training for sewing when he was still 16. He did not like it at first, thinking that sewing was just for girls.

"Later, when I realized I was learning, I realized that sewing is not bad after all. Now that we know our products are bought by famous people, it tells me, that I am lucky to be doing this job," he says.

Further, he says, working for Filo D'Oro made him widen his horizons. He took the Alternative Learning System exam on October 3, hoping to proceed to college and study chemical engineering.

"I love calculating. I love math. That is why I want to study chemical engineering," Ortiz says.
